Children’s Arts Tax Credit
The Federal Government has created the Children’s Arts Tax Credit (CATC), which allows you to claim the expenses incurred if your child is enrolled in a prescribed program of artistic, cultural, recreational, or developmental activity.
This tax credit is available to individuals for registration and membership costs of up to $500 per child, for prescribed programs for their children who are, at the beginning of the taxation year
-
under 16 years of age, or
-
under 18 years of age and have a disability (i.e., eligible to claim a disability tax credit).
The tax credit amounts to 15% of the allowable amount, making a maximum credit of $75.00 per child. In the case of a child with a disability, an additional allowable amount of $500 may be claimed, bringing the maximum tax credit to $150.
If you plan to claim the CATC, please save your receipt for use at tax submission time.
